London could be the last time we see NBA stars playing in the Olympic Games.
David Stern is in favor of a having an under-23 team compete in the Olympics with the NBA’s biggest stars playing in a separate world championship.
"Stern says the NBA will take time to deliberate how it will proceed in the future, but multiple league and international sources insist there’s little chance the league will ever send its best players to the Summer Olympics beyond the 2012 London Games. The NBA has long wanted to best protect its financial investments in players by better controlling the medical and training staffs used in international competition."
London marks the 20-year anniversary of the Dream Team, the All-Star squad who dominated international competition by an average of 43.8 points per game. The team, which consisted of superstars such as Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird, represented the first time USA Basketball employed NBA players in international competition.
